I think that maybe George Carlin had a little more going on upstairs than Michael Moore. I know the whole idea of “I don’t vote” seems a bit nihilistic but I feel like the stuff he says about “The illusion of choice” is accurate. (there are a lot of other clips of him explaining this view during his last few years. The link above was just the first one I saw that wasn’t an irritating bit of adobe-editing with samples of his voice looped over pictures of other stuff). No matter who’s been voted into office, the real wage index (what people are actually getting from their jobs after the average pay of Americans is adjusted for inflation) has stayed the same – or occasionally gone down – since the early 70s. At the same time, the amount of $ those people are generating for their employers has gone up and up and up. This is something that was furthered by the actions of Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and GW Bush alike. Everyone has become increasingly polarized and judgmental of each other because they support this or that party. I feel like all of this spectacle is just a great way to keep everyone focused on the fact that regardless of who’s sign we have in our yard, the people we really have nothing in common with – the people that have really benefitted from the suffering and hardship of Americans while doing nothing to actually change it for the better – are rich fucking politicians. And the more separated by meaningless bullshit we all are, the less likely/able we are to change anything. “Get angry at your fellow citizens and vote for us to make it better. WE will represent you from afar.” (my quotes obviously). Why would anyone with enough money and position to change anything for the better actually want to?
Anyway, I’m a felon and can’t vote.
TRP 2020!!!
