Like many status-competitive humans and especially style-conscious teenage
girls, i.e. 'subdebs' or not-yet-debutantes, they're making a virtue of
changes forced on them, and looking down on those who lag behind... IOW who
are still as they themselves recently were. (Technically I guess we should
expect the trolls to say "out-of-the-bridge" and dryads "out-of-the-tree,"
but there's a lot of odd mixing in Berlin these days).
