NP Kubrick's Barry Lyndon

I'm watching this now because it was so highly praised on this list
recently.  Like the first time I saw it, its story drags.  But as it slowly
unfurls it reminds me of Candide, in that its naive, yet innocently noble,
youth prospers despite himself. He is in the tradition of the Fool of
stage, screen and limitless page.
