"Following the totality". .....

Were you able to get to a viewing place for the total eclipse? My wife and I had reservations at a motel in Oregon to see the whole shebang (I don’t recall EVER typing that word before, etymology “Unknown”) and drove up that way Saturday planning to stay around Redding that night. We didn’t think we needed a reservation hundreds of miles south of the total eclipse path. We were wrong. Nothing available anywhere. The option was to sleep in our car over night or head back south. So we started back tracking, stopping at every motel, but there was no vacancy anyplace along I5 north of Sacramento. So we just went back home, a 585 mile useless round trip.

The thin cloud cover we frequently get in the summers here burnt off by 9:30 so we got a good view of a solar crescent and were able to share our glasses with neighbors and passerby's. My grandson was in Charleston. I hope it was clear there.
