Between the confusing nature of Pynchons work and stuff like Bruno posted, I am constantly thinking I completely missed something in the books.  A while ago somebody at school was talking about “The part in Gravity’s Rainbow with the mind-control helmet” and I started to think I’d accidentally turned 3 pages at once and missed a scene.  A few days later I asked him where that part was and he said “Oh, that was from a different book.  My Bad.”
