P fact check: Did he really inscribe a copy of Mason Dixon for Gary Panter?

Sorry if this has been discussed before

In Cometbus #57 cartoonist Gary Panter (designed Pee Wee's playhouse,
created "Jimbo" and helped develop "RAW," did a famous interview with
PKDick) says that during the " filming" of one of the Pynchon episodes of
The Simpsons Matt Groening got Pynchon to inscribe a copy of Mason Dixon to
Gary Panter (a really big fan of P, who wrote him fan letters, etc)

The inscription, according to Panter, said "Gary, have fun with it. Thomas
Pynchon"

P probably is a big fan of Panter, I only now realize.

But I have to ask: Does this story sound real?

Oh, yeah, and how much would an inscribed copy of Mason Dixon be worth in
today's market?

Thanks

Allan in WV, thinking about P putting a set of signed books aside for his
children to inherit only to realize that that's probably McCarthy he's
thinking of and remembering how his own daughter left his signed copy of
THE THINGS THEY CARRIED out in the rain, a very large rain
