What gods, what races, what worlds were about to be born?

Hunter Penhallow gets on a boat of refugees and escapes the monster.  This
otherworldly beast with supernatural powers is attacking the City, and
destroying it.  The people of the City somehow knew this day would come,
whereas the science men had not even guessed.  They claim the beast somehow
caused them to think it was a meteorite.  Who could have foreseen not only
its consciousness but "an ancient purpose as well.."?

There seems to be two Countrflys here operating, and conveniently indeed
two very similar chummy airships, but however inconveniently perhaps both
the same.

Calling some of the crew of the Malus its children, the monster itself is
the discovery of a new "field", which the science men naturally mismeasure,
leaving the majority of it at "large".  Shamans do not experience time
linearly but outside it, and here a colleague of the scientists appears in
a bilocating fashion, from the north, and warns them of getting too cozy
with this thing they have found.  The Eddas themselves speak of its power.

Counterfly brings the Malus crew in for a closer look at what his gizmos
are picking up of the foreign object of interest.  Inscriptions along it in
an unknown language nonetheless appear to be warnings.

Twice it is pointed out that 90 degree corners of light are necessary for
dimensional shifts.  The Iceland spar not only doubly refract light for
hidden message making but it "hides the Hidden People", and where the spar
is found there lies the portals to other worlds.

At a meeting of the scholars they discuss conscious icefields, mineral
consciousness, convergences of worlds, aether and light and the colonizing
of time.  Dr. Vormance, although ostensibly on the payroll of Vibe and
partaking of the "Ray-rush", may be seeking something else.

And this is what the Upper Hierarchy sends the Chums up to the Arctic for,
to stop Vormance other motives.  They arrive in the Arctic by way of the
tunnel through the Earth that they enter in Antarctica.  Whereas much of
their communications is done via wireless Tesla devices, this one from the
Upper Hierarchy is dispatched by Iceland spar via a clandestine pearl...
