The opening line of Trow's Within the Context of No Context, 1984
maybe...first in The New Yorker, findable online.

"Wonder is the grace of America".

Might be said to combine the ending of Gatsby with (one of) Pynchon's new
meanings
given the word "grace", esp in Against the Day.

And echoes Tony Tanner's title of his good book on American writers: The
Reign of Wonder. Tony Tanner, pretty terrif early Pynchon appreciator.
