Misc on 'rag' per recent thread

It seems there is a thing known as a "chimney rag". different than just a
rag stuffed up a chimney (although I was led to this because of recent
story of a 17th Century map stuffed up a chimney and just found)

IF it is shorthanded to "rag" sometimes......then ?......
