Unreadable messages?

In the digest and the archive, Jesse Gooch's messages consistently
come through only as unreadable/incoherent masses of characters.
Sometimes an apparent reply will contain the original in readable
form, so some people must be getting the messages with no trouble.
But, Jesse (or somebody more tech savvy than I am), is there a way to
send the messages so they won't be turned into garbage for any of us?
