Novel openings with weather

You can always count on good, old Thomas Hardy for weather starts .... especially The Return of the Native and its beautiful open chapter about the heath. Also Under the Greenwood Tree, and Two on a Tower. Mostly, though, his books are really starting out with a pedestrian setting forth or arriving somewhere on a long country road. His 1, 000 poems are especially weather rich ("This is the weather the cuckoo likes / and so do I ..."). -
