Just watched a movie from 2009 called *My Son My Son What Have Ye Done? *
Co-written and directed by Herzog, produced by Lynch, starring Michael
Shannon (I'm guessing many of you know him at least as the neighbors'
mathematician son fresh home from the nuthouse in Mendes's *Revolutionary
Road *adaptation; he's also fucking incredible in this Jeff Nichols movie
called *Take Shelter*; he can do dark and disturbed in this compelling
almost Nicholsonian way).
I really liked *MSMSWHYD? *It's pretty short, something like 85m. Shannon's
great. Greta Gerwig is very good and subtle and deft. Willem Dafoe is
almost invisible, and I mean that as a compliment. The movie itself is
somewhat loose, at least in terms of story and structure and scene, but in
a way you won't mind if you're inclined to like Herzog. There's a scene
with eyeglasses and a lightbulb that made me spontaneously burst into
tears.
