I agree with your reading of it Monte.  The novels and writings after
GR, and the context of his coming of age, and of his readings and
writings in the years  up to and after the composition of GR, as
you've outlined it here, and previously in greater detail, supports
your reading.

Though there in GR, the emphasis of GR, obviously, is not on Other
empires of history, but on the empires of the West, Europe and America
are the focus. The Rocket is launched from European theatre of
war/history but its target, like the novel's target, is America,
though Everybody in the world is in the Theater because the projection
of American and European Light and Enlightenment, has shackled not
only the poor crippled consciousness of the West but now threatens to
make all of us slave workers on a night shift's night shift, where it
is not Nazi Germany that works us to extermination, but larger and
more insidious octopus or power and control.
