P. Speculating on P.

I've read much of the major published stuff on Pynchon,
books and major articles and I cannot remember much
space given, as sources of his researched vision, to
Richard Hofstadter.
Maybe that famous lecture/essay on
paranoia is referenced, first in a mag then as a book--esp as it relates to
GR-- but my speculation
for this Thanksgiving week is
There is lots more Hofstadter in Pynchon--or else,
he was a fellow historical traveller by mutual intelligence.
More will come during that now-famous upcoming Read,
And meanwhile, to slipstream on a current multi-threading
here on the Plist guitar, I cannot help but note that in Hofstadter's list
of the hidden reasons for McCarthyism, which he labels The Great
Inquisition,
there is Negrophobia! [In Anti-Intellectualism in American Life,
1963].. Just sayin'.
PS. RH does explanatory lists, a thoroughness, akin to the way P does
object lists,
and I cannot even include this associatively gossamer-webbed similarity to
be
a credible example of RH influencing TRP but.............
A--and.. the word "Negro' left most American books in the late 60's,
centered around that miraculous
year of 1968. Black Power and all and all quaintness to be gone.
