P, not P? depends. Maybe a new 'definition' of an Inherent Vice?

Self-praising confession: I always doubted, in my parochial mid-America
coming-of-age, even Joan Didion and others
that the Manson Family murders were somehow an extreme 'inherent vice' end
result of the anarchic hippie counter-culture of the time.
So, I tried to learn how it was, doubting myself more than what I thought
was believed. After all, what did I really know about
'the anarchic hippie counter-culture"?

Now, however, this piece, offering even a contrary opinion to its own
NYTimes obituary--and against an otherwise smart reviewer
and writer, David Ulin in the LATimes who just wrote superficially I say
about how Manson is Us....??? can't take that....

Only TRP, in my limited purview, might have a vision of America deep enough
to get Manson understood as an "inherent vice"--or not.
