It has been mentioned before but my reason for mentioning it again is that,
Ms MacLean documents how, after
Watergate dramatically weakened Republican initiatives, Buchanan and his
fellow Mt. Pelerin Society and U of Chicago
Randian economists (via hayek)  met steadily in secret and planned in
detail their attack on democracy and Buchanan
called them all,

the counterforce.
