In another of the essays in Hinds' book, there is this pretty wonderful
remark. The writer is onto the longitude problem of the time in Eco's
*Island* novel
and in* M & D* and he writes all the great diversions and nested narrators
and narratorial
asides make longitude hard to find in M & D.

Discuss.
