The Comfort of Strangers is great, though I’ve never seen the film. A personal favorite of mine is The Child in Time, though now that I’m a parent I’m not sure if I can read it again. 

Of course it will sound obvious, but Atonement is absolutely phenomenal (even better than the film which I adore). 

The Innocent was also very impressive because you have McEwans poetic prose telling a genuinely gripping Cold War adventure story.
