A little side note about the John Birch Society. If you have a copy of
David Hajdu's "Positively 4th St" then you can see on page 180 that Richard
FariƱa, Joan B. and our TP were at the Monterey Fair in 1963 and Richard
had a confrontation with some John Birch Society members. A couple of years
later we get CL49
Is this not about the time that he writes to a couple of people about the
several books that he envisions writing, his creative project that will
take years to finish (not his words)?
Oddly enough, at that fair amongst the many performers like Doc Watson was
a young Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter playing with the WIldwood Boys; they
would later go on to be part of the Grateful Dead. And there were some JBS
dudes there? Talk about wierd and a bit... provocative? It gets me a bit
paranoid at this far remove in time.
