Another reason why TR Pynchon will never win.

I agree it stoppers--see what I do there--that generation of US writers,
yes. I also won't let go of my own idea that it didn't/ wouldn't go to TRP
because he would NEVER come get it. Or, send Patti Smith (joke) or have
sent Prof Corey or do that uplifting lecture they want. And they know it.
And as this piece is always saying, their biggest fear is "bad publicity".
When Sartre refused and dissed them, they learned never to forget that.
(you ever watch it live? You have NEVER seen more mics thrusting forward
anywhere--like a jerry-built, insane octopus of steel limbs with
mouthpieces jutting into the scene. ...all mics, no pic)
NEVER would TRP, I'm always saying I'll send around my piece on that again
that was almost published when demand gets overwhelming.
And if Brit, I, too, woudda bet on Stoppard, some kind of professional
friend of TRP's we sorta believe or else just another admirer, but I like
Ishiguro a lot. Haunting stuff. Gonna teach Remains next semester, i
think. . The Unconsoled still consoles me with its unsettledness. Reminds
me of all our confusions and more.

I think the decision to award the prize to Bob Dylan was the Academy’s way
of saying “we don’t think much of the 1930s-born American novelists (Toni
Morrison aside)”. Doubt anyone from that generation will win the prize now.
I was pleased Kazuo Ishiguro won last year, although if you’d told me in
advance there was to be a British winner I’d have guessed Tom Stoppard.
