I am reading Carpentaria right now and thought I'd recommend it to this
group. Alexis Wright is an Australian and an Aborigine. Carpentaria came
out about ten years ago and won the Miles Franklin Award, given to a book
that someone decides is Australia's best of the year. It's a big sprawling
novel that I won't try to sum up, not especially like Pynchon's except in
some important ways that it is, maybe a little like Mason & Dixon for
another continent that they never went to. I won't try to describe it, but
