Just how much of a Nazi was Philip Johnson?

I've been to see the New Canaan house, so I knew of him, his name,
that he was a top flight architect, but I'd NO IDEA about this aspect
of his life.

I did, however, know that he was gay. I guess that was more shocking
and worthy of mentioning than him being a Nazi somehow.
