There is Plath's remark--"every woman loves a fascist"-- and some of Pynchon's deep embodied insights flatly stated , I suggest

Another Laura, critic Laura Frost asserts that Plath's line is  not as
ironic as it is
often read to be....."her poems parade stereotypes of innate female
sadomasochism"
Seems she and others read her as giving courageous voice to some of the
deepest
previously unexpressed, unembodied in major poetry aspects of women having
to live in a patriarchal society.

Cf. "Daddy, Daddy, I'm through".....

So that she is NOT read as another purely personal "hysterical' woman,
filling poems with autobiographical details
that carry no larger meanings, we have to see her stark images, rhymes,
rhythms and anguish as we do
the still-overrated Hemingway and his Males, for example.

Her poems have always hit me that way--and that novel-- . I'd rather read
her poetic insights over, say, Byron,
almost any day.......but I'm just me...
