Not only a nice title.  Backman's analysis of Shasta is really good after discussing the femme fatale in hard boiled . Personally I think her discussing Maxine is less convincing but opinions can vary.

I have not yet finished the book (Section 5 to be read) but have mixed feelings about this collection. On the other hand, contains eye openers for white, male, heterosexual middle-aged former Trotskyite punk rockers turned bourgeois and working out of Academia.
