The Axiom of Delayed Choice

How can you maintain your own identity in the face of overwhelming accomplishment, or just sheer magnitude of being, e.g., "Bleeding Edge," or,  911? How can you understand such a momentous work of art or monstrous occurrence without imitating, or, just becoming a parody of your own paranoia? In this age of "reality" media, when the "source code" of the fame machine has become open to anyone with a smart phone, can you pick and choose  from an already passed over collection of disjoint artifacts and assemble them into something new and meaningful- just to get you through the day?

From another angle, is it possible to materially influence the present as it is unfolding by reconsidering the past? Can the dossier of the past be changed after it has been written and submitted for scrutiny? Probably not, outside virtual reality, but-
