And George Holding's "work for the Ideas and Values" are like truths
that we can Keep and Hold, as in We Hold these Truths to be...

But there is something about the Hold of a ship or vessel or airship
or submarine...carriage that Keeps a holding on in Pynchon's fictions,
holding onto the center that is too Protean to Hold.
What are these holds, that can't be held, that won't be kept?
do you think TRP read his ancestor's books, like, not the religious
ones but the chemistry and physics ones?
