"...the fact that bananas grow from a corm, and they're *radioactive, *just
a little...becuase of the potassium...
...the fact that scientists sometimes measure in relation to the amount of
radiation in a banana, like one banana's
worth of radiation. two bananas' worth, the fact that it doesn't sound very
precise to me, because bananas vary in
size, but what do I know. *I don't know but they know, *the fact that they
call it the Banana Equivalent Dose, BED, or
Better not Eat Dat......"----*-Ducks, Newburyport [and I confirmed as
fact] *

One of the strokes of brilliance of this novel, Ms Ellmann says it is how
she started writing it was the constant [yes, maybe too too]
writing down of....facts......

"The fact fights its way into existence; for it exists by virtue of the
oppositions which it involves."--C.S Pierce.

So that motif in America (and much of the world's) pervasive atmosphere of
lies and falseness is so fine...grounds the book.
Social realism as only a lightning rod, so to speak.
