this is a MAJOR SPOILER for the Pynchon fave play *Measure for Measure* if
you
have never seen it nor read it and want to----WHICH I HIGHLY RECOMMEND--
without this bit of Pynchon allusion.......
THERE IS A MONSTER AT THE END OF THIS BOOK/post. DO NOT TURN THE PAGE/ Or
Read On--from a great eponymous postmodernist classic.
OK, you'll probably doubly regret this but.....and I had so forgotten the
ending
that it came as a completely new effect.
At the end of this play is perhaps the most famous ending in all of
Shakespeare
in which Isabella, she who saved her brother's life by begging (and getting
ducally lucky),
has been offered/ stated in marriage by the Duke. In the comedy genre---but
Shakey burst
all the genres Blooming Flower is always saying--the play should end in
said marriage.
BUT WE WAIT AND SHE DOES NOT ANSWER. DOES NOT SIGNAL YES. Or No.
This M for M resurrected reader and Pynchon fanboy,
COULD NOT HELP FEELING THE ENDING OF THE CRYING OF LOT 49.
Your milage may vary. My self--pleasure doesn't.
