Not Pynchon but Nabokov and his great novel. By Brian Boyd scholar and N biographer and expert. A reader who after more than a few readings of PALE FIRE decided his understanding was all wrong!

( you might not believe, I can't know, the incredible hate--supposed moral
antipathy-- this novel engenders in many women. Women who do read. But in
this case, not closely enough. )

I've thought of offering a Lifelong Learning course of it....but afraid no
women, therefore almost no one, would sign up. And I'd get banned,
whispered about, tarred and feathered verbally. All my male feminism cred
going up in lipstick smears on mirrors. .....They'll run me out of town
while I shout BUT LOOK AT THE ANALYSIS OF DIRTY DANCING I offered on my
wanna-dance feet while 'The Time of my Life' from it played behind
me!---THAT EVERY WOMAN (and one of two men) LOVED! (After I played *Love
is Strange* bringing in that guitar, Plato (!) and Grey's ABSOLUTE control
of that dance, testing for love.).

So it goes.
