Aw, man...

I remember Paul well because when I developed an interest in gnosis and the
Gnostics, he reached out to me and made some excellent suggestions that
have gone a long way towards filling in my gaping lacunae on the subject.

He was generous and kind. A man of few words, but those words were always
chosen wisely, with economy and thoughtfulness.

The world could use a lot more people like him.

PS - I'd like to say how much I appreciate having a collection of such
impressive people with whom to communicate on a semi-regular basis. Both as
a group and as individuals (you know who you are!), the Pynchon List has
led to a significant increase in my quality of life, both inner and outer.
So, as long as we're all here, and because it's too late to say it to Paul,
I would just like to say... thanks, folks, for everything, whether Pynchon
related or not.
