Hey man

I liked it. I think the fact that its first installment of a trilogy
explains somewhat the feeling like it isnt fully formed, for exampIe his
female characters or crucial info about the child everyone is looking for.
I think the second volume is from the pov of one of the major female
characters and I'm guessing alot of plot points and such will be filled in.

Beyond that I read Black Leopard not worrying too much about losing track
of characters and locations. and though a fantasy it never felt too airy or
ephemeral (the ultraviolence will do that I suppose). I like James' voice.
he's created a world here. its imho as if blood meridian was written by
Samuel Delaney

James may be the only writer currently around who I look forward to--the
fact he wrote a fantasy indicates to me he has range after the brutal
Jamaican epic Seven Killings.
