I can't tell you how disappointing Taibbi's recent turn towards
"America Always in the Wrong" style opinioneering has been to me,
personally. First on Russia (which you'd think he would be well
positioned to help readers understand, but he's done nothing on that
front AT ALL), and now on Ukraine and Turkey? Shit, man. VERY
disappointed.
I've been following Matt's work since the eXile and the Buffalo Beast
for Pete's sake. In retrospect, maybe it was always his sense of humor
that I found more appealing and impressive than his analytic acumen,
which has been worse than lacking of late... it's been positively
AWOL.

He was deported in 1992 for writing an article for the Associated Press that was critical of President Islam Karimov. At the time of his deportation, Taibbi was the starting left fielder for the Uzbek national baseball team.[15][4][3]

Taibbi became known as "The Mongolian Rodman", was paid $100/month to play, and says he also hosted a radio show while there.[16][17][18] He later contracted pneumonia and returned to Boston for surgery.[19]
