Jochen is as succinct as the best noir.

This movie is over-the-top great.....Phoenix is a sublime genius. (as with
all such, where did it come from)
...(we knew he was that but this is new genius and one might argue
fuller---since whole body involved--manifestation)
De Niro is perfect....
And the story, from micro--personal--to macro--the whole of society-- works
superbly. ( a little shorthand elision per film and Hollywood, yet...)

Imagine Notes from the Underground via a great DC Comic mythic creation;
Imagine a secular Paradise Lost .....Imagine
all the anti-society elements in history.....


PS: Just about the only "superhero" I much liked was BATMAN, because no
superpowers and so flawed because of the origin story.
(Most other superheroes to even half-believe one must go right to 'mythic
understanding or not go at all.
