Not Plague related at all (but one might be an escapist reader) -
Jaimy Gordon’s _Lord of Misrule_ and _She Drove Without Stopping_ are pleasurable, even delectable, imho.
Next up, _Shamp of the City-Solo_
Selling point for me was an interview in which she said a major early influence was _Urn Burial_ which is quite unlike her books except for amazing turns of phrase every so (quite) often.
_Urn Burial_ might be closer to plague reading, though.
Also started Richard Powers’ _The Overstory_ but left it in my storage unit. It hums along, & now that older one of his about opera singers is on my Audible wish list. _Orpheus_ was really enjoyable to listen to.
Wikipedia articles about viruses very fascinating. Coronavirus pic is beautiful!
Last but not least, spurred by the movie “Seberg” which I thought quite moving though the critics seem to think it should’ve been a lot better (but shouldn’t we all) - found a couple books by Romain Gary. _The Dance of Genghis Cohn_ is kind of a hoot.
And reminds me of this book by Gunter Grass that I started reading in the library, about a guy and his dentist, same kind of sort of flat-affect delivery, but for some reason never finished. So that’s back on the list.
Hope they don’t cancel everything, I want to go see Judy Collins and Wynton Marsalis and King Crimson this year. And Pharaoh Sanders has a Boston gig in May - like the novels of TRP, a reason for living.
Let’s all not get ill!
What if they gave a plague and nobody came?
Odd fact: epizootic in late 19th century killed 25% of all horses in New England. Years later people were referring to their own minor illnesses as “the epizootic.” I’ve heard this in a comedy routine - maybe WC Fields?
