After many days, a question

Thanks for the clarification - I’m reminded of a painting I saw at an art installation of a guy and his dog, with the caption, “their relationships were Byzantine.” Sarkozy’s really are, though.

Mr Wisner the younger has quite a resume: State under Carter, ambassador to Zambia, Egypt, Philippines and India, emissary to Egypt in 2011, and Enron alumnus. Squire, Patton, Boggs advisor, big white-shoe law firm. Just a bit younger than Mr Pynchon (born in 1938, while the latter was born in 1937.)

Indeed, Frank G. Wisner II is Nicolas Sarkozy's stepfather:

"(...) Mr. Wisner’s current wife, from whom he is separated, was once
married to Pal Sarkozy, the father of President Nicolas Sarkozy of France."

Surprisingly, or rather unsurprisingly, it is hard to find much
information on this family link between Nicolas Sarkozy and Frank Wisner
II in the legacy media.

These articles from the alternative media may be of interest:

'In 1977, Pal Sarkösy of Nagy-Bocsa separates from his second wife,
Christine de Ganay, who then gets together with the N°2 of the US State
Department central administration. She marries him and settles in
America with him. The world being very small, as everyone knows, her
husband is none other than Frank Wisner, Jr, son of the previous.
Junior’s responsibilities at the CIA are unknown, but it is clear that
he plays an important role. Nicolas, who remains close to his mother in
law, his half brother and his half sister, begins to turn towards the
United States where he “benefits” from training programs of the State
Department.'
