I think here in BE this idiom is extended to apply to the tech world,
(almost obviously from the context) Wall of silence - Idioms by The Free
Dictionary <https://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/wall+of+silence>

1. An unspoken policy of concealment by police regarding the wrongdoing or
illicit activity of other officers. A variation on the phrase "blue wall of
silence."
