in the author notes to a 2019 book called *Thomas Pynchon in Context,* the
estimable
David Kipen, latterly the Kirkus reviewer of Pynchon among much else, who
has popped up once or twice on this List, his achievements and writing
includes that he has written a proposal for a biography of Thomas Pynchon.

He asked me about this a good while back now, since I have been "in
publishing" and I said I don't think any
good publisher would bite---they know there is no there to write
(yet)---but that he should go for it anyway and write it in the spirit of
this classic:

He surely needs enough of an advance to make it worth his time, which he
can't get yet.
