When I see “hawaldar” I’m prone to think “Cadwallader” which is Welsh or
something for battle leader. Also the name of the last Welsh king claiming
lordship over all of Britain.
Almost certainly no connection. Offered as an impressionistic offshoot or
tendril, if you will.
“…for it is who but the of course nowhere-near-history Horst Loeffler,
showing up, like Basil St.
John in the life of Brenda Starr, unannounced, another year’s worth of
lines deepening on his face, poised already for departure, while in the
reverse shot the little polarized tear flashes, right on cue, appear along
the edges of Brenda Starr’s eyelids.”
Reverse shot in Wikipedia “a film technique where one character is shown
looking at another character (often off-screen), and then the other
character is shown looking back at the first character (a revers shot or
counter shot.) Since the characters are shown facing in opposite
directions, the viewer assumes that they are looking at each other. “
So this is more of a reference to the movie with Brooke Shields? Or I guess
the same technique applies in a comic strip.
Basil St John with the romantic eye patch like Odin, gone on a quest for
black orchids in South America for years at a time - Brenda Starr, girl
reporter facing workplace challenges for women, undoing stereotypes, but
able to carry on such a long distance romance and eventually consummate it
in a wedding, to be congratulated publicly by President Gerald Ford. If
this is foreshadowing, make the most of it!
