(Previously - pg 40 -

...the radio begins to blare the song “When the Pussy Willow Whispers to the Catnip”
“Turn off that ofay music,” Abdul almost snarls.

(—- ofay being pig Latin for “foe” (as we know)

(“Foe” being a not unreasonable characterization of the melanin-deficient cohort, to my lasting shame and dismay

(But we aren’t completely evil and sometimes nice, not only always to each other either...

(Anyway, the song seems pretty innocuous, it’s not the Horst Wessel song or something, indeed it’s kinda cute and seems to be referring in a cutesy way to attraction between genders or species Or polymorphous perversity...

(Here is a contemporaneous version

(He walks over to the radio and turns it off himself and then returns to the wall where he has been standing watching other people dance.

(—- but we are hesitant to group him with the Wallflower Order anyway.

Pg 41
Black Herman and PaPa LaBas direct their attention to the man standing against the wall. Gradually Abdul came from the wall.

1) tense shift

2) concerted effort of the 2 Jes Grew sympathizers to bring the erstwhile wallflower into the mix

3) neither BH nor PLB is dancing but they do have a lively conversation going (is this the recourse for 50 and overs? Sigh...(-;))
