I can’t take the movies, therefore I’ve never bothered with the books.
I am guessing it’s not so much public schoolboy smugness (which as a Brit I’m allergic to) as this appears in quantity in JLCs work, but I think it’s more likely to be inane ‚saving the day‘ with a Lacy thong hanging out of the back pocket and a gross patter.
Apropos of Mr Connery, my sons attended the same primary school as him, many years after him. I did nearly walk into him by accident at the Edinburgh Film Festival (oh the heady days of festivals! Sigh)
