 I probably should have used the word “phrase” instead of quote. It’s obvious Ishmael was referring to “Your Feet’s Too Big”. Irrelevant to the novel and the read, I first became familiar with that song from the Beatles Star Club tapes. Would IR consider that Jes Grew diluted? Paul McCartney had the Fats Waller 45. The Ink Spots were the first to record it. Leon Redbone’s recording was used as the theme song for the early 90s TV show Harry and the Hendersons. I didn’t know that until I recently looked up the wiki entry. I’ve never seen the show or movie. 
I believe that is Adelaide Hall with Fats on “Can't Give You Anything But Love“. She was the vocalist on the earlier original recording.
