Yes, a good textual question and I want to answer this way: Pynchon first,
telling us how to view---
and in many other ways,many overt,--that company and this world.
Maxine knows. The others, oblivious, whey they are part of the
satire...(maybe the kids 'know' accepting the irony
as cool?)
