Last chapter, Maxine called Vyrva’s usual outfit a “throw-together.”
Now, on the cruise ship, Maxine’s outfit is a “put-together.” A little more
curating!
How does “neo-Brechtian subversion of the diegesis” conjure a Christian
weight-loss program?
“Diet-Jesus,” dang, just got it!
“But . . . wait . . . a movie about hashslingrz? Footage of what, nerds
staring at screens?”
“Original script had a lot of car chases, explosions, but somehow the
budget . . .”
a) Pynchon made a related joke about a Robert Musil biopic in VL:
"...Pee-Wee Herman in the Robert Musil Story. It was mostly Pee-wee talking
in a foreign accent, or sitting around in front of some pieces of paper
with some weird-looking marker pen, and the kids' attention kept wandering
to each other."
It is a problem with movies about computer stuff! Like in Tron, you had to
get a guy going inside the computer on a virtual motorcycle, in War Games
they had to invoke WWIII to make it interesting, Hackers relies on Angelina
Jolie and The Net on Sandra Bullock.
Movies are a hash of life!
