I get that we can meaningfully and simultaneously speak out of more than
one side of our mouths. Like, a book can be dumb and shallow, but to deny
access via translation is boycotting potential readers (of dumb and shallow
stuff), thus hurting them?
But, yes it is intellectual content that presumably the author values as
such. I figure she thinks the left-behind readers will survive w/o
becoming indignant Trumpers. I think she figures the book’s popularity
might spur some potential readers to anger at Israel, right? Because she
expressly declares her opposition to Israel’s injustices as her motive.
Also, if a “celebrity” can turn a light onto injustice, it has more juice
than little us. And maybe other authors will follow suit. That’s the only
power boycotts have.
