I think she just left it in the Limo. It was handed back to her in the
Limo; she had said she could not accept it and when in this novel has she
not meant what she has said? ...
March, no longer who she used to be, dealing dope as Joseph reminds, wants
her to be as guilty as she (in a different way). Dante among others knew
this phenomenon.

The word "there" on the end of March's sentence is a subtlety; Pynchon did
not write on your lap, in your hand; it is on the LIMO seat next to Maxine
I suggest and
her retort "Why, when I don't even know how much it's supposed to be to
begin with, see what I'm saying" is
sly and telling.......I think "see what I'm saying" is her telling March
she had not given Igor a fee for any legitimate work therefore
this could not be the payment of a legitimate fee. Therefore as she has
said, "I can't accept this".

Besides what I wrote above, I think Maxine is much too savvy to ever take
money like that from such types. Blackmail, implication,
accessory, arrest......she would be afraid of whatever might happen
unexpectedly. ......
