Thanks, Mark, for the corrections on the fiction in the various Whole Earth
Catalogues!

DR’s trip 1971 was a thought provoking read, & the author, Gurney Norman,
is a real cool cat

Paul Krassner’s “Tales of Tongue Fu,” (1974) is a real hoot without the
earnestness of DR’s Trip but a lot more yucks. Paul Krassner (requiescat in
pace) also wrote an amazing autobiography and a lot of great journalism
including around the Manson horrors.

Anne Herbert’s “The Rising Sun Neighborhood” (1981) which I had forgotten
about, was also great. I just learned from Wikipedia that from 2005 to 2012
she lived in the Haight-Ashbury in the guise of a street person while
continuing to write and edit. She shuffled off her mortal coil in 2015 -
requiescat in pace. Also from her creativity came the phrase “random
kindness and senseless acts of beauty” by her writing it on a placemat in
Sausalito in 1982
