Not P. Free book. Satire

So I downloaded this (thanks, Mark!) and it reminded me of something, but I
wasn't sure what or why. I knew it was a satire that I'd read a while back,
shortly after graduating university, and that it had something to do with
Ayn Rand. Was it "Thrasymachus Sneezed"?

No... that's just a one-note joke in Wilson/Shae's "Illuminatus" trilogy.
It was something to do with, what was it again... railroads or something...
public works?

Oh yeah! It was "Sewer, Gas & Electric: The Public Works Trilogy", by Matt
Ruff! And the reason why it reminded me of Ayn Rand is because Ruff
dedicated the novel to her for some (I'm pretty sure sarcastic) reason.

So, feeling all nostalgic, I dug it out of one of my old trunks where I
keep those novels that shared two qualities: 1) I had enjoyed reading them,
and 2) they were in too bad a shape to sell off during the tough times when
I had to do low-rent stuff like sell my movies, records, CDs and books to
survive.

So anyway, I dug it out, and what do you know... right there on the
cover... a Pynchon blurb! It's a short one, just three words:

"A Postmillennial Spectacular..." - Thomas Pynchon

So how many degrees of separation is that?

Cheers!
yer old pal Jerky
