How hard it is to see the real Nazis anymore, right? (NOT, not even in 2001
(or 2013, when BE was published).  The Conkling scene here is a spin on the
Dr. Hilarious black humor joke
isn't it?, showing the career-length pattern in the tapestry of Pynchon's
works.

I self-referentially remember writing here on
the Plist about seeing all the Nazi garb and shit in an Army surplus store
just north of me in Pennsylvania.
