p 241 "Is that:, Maxine wonders, "like, Ride the Wild Surf?"
Except summer will end all too soon.....

That sixties movie of my subject line is being alluded to here, right?
Why else did Maxine jump in with the surf-riding metaphor in NYC in
2001?

I am not the only one who thought the projected world in that movie was
boring as hell am I?

...but soon "everything'll be suburbanized faster than you can say "late
capitalism"--
there TRP goes again as he now adds the virtual synonym with political
spin:
neoliberalism.......once again laughing us up with 'it is the worst thing
someone can
call someone else's mother a neoliberal'....imagine playing the dozens with
THAT slam...

Hilarious, this chapter with that most awful stuff (more coming) is also
always so funny.
Speaking about the meaningful nuance that is in nothing Thomas ever sends,
it is always
in Pynchon and this novel!.....god, what rereading keeps
revealing.....allusions to his whole
oeuvre and subtlety up the wazoo........

p. 242 "With classic Russian reluctance they will not name it"....the wit
hurts.....as if reluctance is ever
associated with the Russian people but "classic Russian repression of truth
 (by its leaders),
the refusal to name things from the Communist Party thru today (with a
small window or two of leadership honesty)
is contained in this simple line I say.
