Someone recently posted a clip of George Formby playing the ukulele here (I
think; I can't find it). It appears that Netflix has flooded the
streamwaves with old classics (or my account has indeed discovered what I
like to watch) and last night served up "Let George Do It" (also known as "To
Hell With Hitler <https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0032699/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_11>")
from 1940. *(After the start of World War II, a ukulele player is mistaken
for a secret agent and becomes involved in a spy operation to defeat Nazi
agents in Norway. **Starring: George Formby, Phyllis Calvert, Garry
Marsh). *
It was great fun and I think very much captured the zanier side that makes
GR such a wonderful romp through an otherwise horrific theater of war.
A-and that led me to this: ukulelia: The Pynchon/Formby Conspiracy Plot
Thickens

Which is .... food for thought.
